Day 5

With some time on our hands and the advantage of a car, we decided to explore Nevers, the larger city on the southern part of the Vezelay route. It is a very nice and rather modern city--wide streets and newer buildings due to a miscalculation by thr RAF which dropped 2 large bombs on the historic part of the city in 1944. All the stained glass in the cathedral has been replaced by modern works. The entire nave is under restoration until 2026.

We also discovered the convent of the Sisters of Charity where Saint Bernadette spent the last part of her life. Her incorrupt body lies in a glass tomb in the chapel.
