Day 24

Sauveterre, a gorgeous medieval city, was not on the original plan, but I'm very glad we stopped there. A picturesque site with many reminders of wars, both religious and secular, churches built and rebuilt, but spectacular anyway.

Lovely walk along the river to an 11th century bridge and up past what remain of the ramparts of the city's fortifications after the Castilians invaded.

And then on to Le Palais where the four French pathways to Compostela converge. Lots of uphill climbs--the hardest 5 miles so far, and lots of pilgrims. This is the first time we have actually visited with pilgrims on the Way. Delightful to hear their stories, and some are just plain hikers--not on the Way.

A great day and we are nearing the end.

Beautiful photos. Nice to see one of Tim. You were wise to save the hard climbs till you were so strong! Love the changes in geography.
