Day 17

With rain pouring down, we found a few activities to dry us out and then keep us dry. But not much walking. First the stunning

Saint-Front Cathedral in Perigueux and a coffee and tea to dry out and make a new plan. Headed out to Chancelade which has an abbey church dedicated to Mary and Saint Mary Magdalen. Most of the abbey was destroyed during the revolution and is now undergoing some renovations. The 11th century chapel of Saint Jean presented a calm uncluttered introduction to the visit. We wanted to hike there tomorrow, but plans had to change. Then on to the village of St Astiers. In the gothic church we discovered three pilgrims, drying out and nursing their feet. It felt too solemn to open a conversation, so we left with a "bon chemin."

Maybe part of tomorrow, but we’ll probably try to walk anyway. We made the best of it. And no, only about half of our miles qualify us as pilgrims. And then there’s something about having a car…it’s beautiful btw. Hope you are doing well.
